Highway improvements through Enderby have hit another roadblock.
Council was informed by the Ministry of Transportation Monday that upgrades to Highway 97A are about a month behind.
“Snow could be a month away,” said Coun. Brad Case, adding that he doesn’t expect the work to be completed until spring now.
The project began in October 2010 and was stalled over the summer because work was behind schedule and there was a concern that construction would negatively impact summer traffic.
Activities resumed in September but another delay has now surfaced because utility poles were not replaced over the summer.
Everything is on hold until the utility poles are addressed.
“It could be spring until the project is done which isn’t a happy occurrence,” said Mayor Dee Wejr.
“It’s not good for our residents and businesses. There aren’t proper sidewalks because they are ripped up. It’s frustrating.”
Case is disappointed with how the project has proceeded.
“Some where along the line, there was a disconnect between the utilities and the ministry,” he said.
Case is concerned the ongoing construction zone makes Enderby unattractive to tourists passing through.
“It sure reflects bad on us and yet we as a community have little say over the project,” he said.
As part of the $4.17 million project, the ministry is installing highway lights with left-turn lanes at Hubert and Mill streets.
