Enderby man injured in machete attack

Charges of assault possible after a psychiatric assessment

An Enderby man was sent to hospital after being attacked by a machete.

On Sunday at about 8:47 p.m., RCMP were called to a home on Tamarack Road after receiving a report that a 20-year-old man had allegedly swung a machete at his father.

“The investigation determined that the young man suffers from mental health issues,” said Gord Molendyk, RCMP spokesperson.

“It’s a very tragic situation and traumatic within a family dynamic.”

The father was taken to Vernon Jubilee Hospital with injuries to his shoulder, arm  and hand.

“They are not life-threatening injuries,” said Molendyk.

The suspect, who was arrested for assault with a weapon, was also taken to VJH for a psychiatric assessment. The results of the evaluation will determine whether charges are laid.
