Enderby officials consider street light

It’s not known if an Enderby neighbourhood will get a street light.

Two residents recently asked the city for a street light on Larsen Avenue to resolve what they consider dark and unsafe conditions.

“We want to make sure all of the residents there want a light first,” said Mayor Greg McCune of a pending survey of the neighbourhood.

No street light was installed during the development of the last block of Larsen Avenue in the 1990s.

“During the summer, the problem was not apparent to us. But it certainly has been these past three months where to venture outside after 4:40 p.m. without a flashlight invites a fall on a slippery street,” said resident Alyson Witts in a December letter to council.

The cost of a light would be about $10,000, and the options are for the city to pay for the utility or for residents on the road to cover the cost through a specified area.

McCune admits there are similar issues about lighting throughout Enderby.

“There are three or four other blocks that require lights,” he said.
