Revitalization of Enderby’s central core is crossing boundaries.
The Splatsin First Nation and the Regional District of North Okanagan have indicated support for the City of Enderby’s plans for upgrades to downtown.
“We’ve had a lot of good discussions about the direction we should go,” said Mayor Howie Cyr.
Cyr is particularly pleased to see the Splatsin band involved.
“They are interested in working on this as one community,” he said.
Another partner at the table is the Enderby Chamber of Commerce.
To move the revitalization process ahead, a steering committee has been formed with representation from the city, the chamber, Area F and the Splatsin First Nation.
“Sub-committees will be formed and opened up to representation by both interested public and private sector stakeholders,” said Darren Robinson, chamber executive director.
“A town hall style public meeting has been tentatively scheduled for March 3. More details will follow soon on how the public can get involved.”
A recent session involving stakeholders focused on how to proceed with establishing goals.
“A variety of ideas were discussed,” said Cyr of economic development, beautification and community health.
Cyr is convinced the success of revitalization will depend on the entire community embracing the overall vision.
“We have to involve the public,” he said.
