Some major capital projects in Enderby are still moving ahead despite some challenges.
City council was provided with an update on the Regent Street lift station and work on Vernon Street.
“We are waiting for some of the pumps for Regent,” said Mayor Greg McCune.
“They didn’t show up on time. It will be about a week.”
As a result, other aspects of the project are being pushed ahead to keep the overall schedule on track.
In terms of infrastructure upgrades on Vernon Street, Old Man Winter is a concern.
“We want to get the asphalt down before winter so we are a little panicky,” said McCune.
During the work, crews have found some storm sewer lines are connected to the sanitary sewer and multiple properties are served off of the same sewer line.
“These matters are being rectified as discovered,” said Tate Bengtson, chief administrative officer.
“The water lines in this area are fragile and there have been two breaks during construction. A Fortis gas line was discovered at an unexpected depth that conflicted with one of the city’s new lines, which required an adjustment in its level in order to eliminate the conflict.”
However, savings in other aspects of the Vernon Street project have allowed it to remain on budget.
