Tax dollars could be pumped into the development of trails in the Enderby area.
The Enderby/Area F Joint Services Commission has received a request for $10,000 annually over three years from the Shuswap Trail Alliance.
“We will look at it during our budget process but it looks positive,” said Brad Case, commission director.
The funds, if approved, would come from the City of Enderby and rural Enderby, and help advance the regional trail strategy.
Since 2006, $1.5 million has gone into infrastructure around the Shuswap, including an upgrade to the Enderby Cliffs trail and Larch Hills wetland protection.
Among the alliance’s 2012-2015 operational plan priorities are the Gordon Dale Trail, signage and destination programing.
While $10,000 a year over three years is a large sum of money, Case believes it is worth consideration.
“We are hearing from people that they want trails. Walkability is important,” he said.
