On behalf of the City of Parksville, a team of public engagement specialists from HDR Corporation, an engineering company, will lead public consultation events over the coming months to discuss the proposed Parksville Aquatic and Recreation Centre or multiplex.
In a release, the city said the consultation will help identify potential programs and amenities, gauge the community’s interest in a new facility and help determine a suitable site for the multiplex.
HDR’s consultation approach will prioritize which features and amenities the community would like to see at an ideal site. Since the Despard Avenue location is no longer an option for the multiplex, HDR has engagement opportunities planned for residents this summer and fall.

The first pop-up engagement events will take place on Wednesday, Aug. 18, where HDR team members will hand out informational postcards at various locations in Parksville, listening to comments and suggestions from residents about the proposed multiplex.
The first location will be at 280 Island Hwy, the Thrifty’s shopping centre, from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m.
The second location will be at the Parksville Community Park on the waterfront walkway and at the gazebo, between 5 p.m and 8 p.m.
Other engagement opportunities will include a hybrid in-person and virtual public presentation and listening session in late August, youth engagement in early October and in-person public workshops in late October.
