New and refurbished amenities are now available at Huxley Community Park for Gabriola Island residents to enjoy, thanks to assistance from the community.
According to a press release from the Regional District of Nanaimo, the park, which was created in 1987, has new sport court perimeter boards, and playground, as well as resurfaced tennis courts. Contributions from the Lions club on Gabriola, Nanaimo Foundation and the Canadian government, through the Community Fund for Canada’s 150, helped with the playground.
The sports and tennis facilities were supported by the Gabriola Ball Hockey Association and the Western Economic Diversification Canada’s Canada 150 Community Infrastructure Program.
“Huxley Community Park is very important to the Gabriola Island residents,” said Howard Houle, RDN electoral Area B director, in the press release. “Thank you to … efforts of our community, the park enhancements are exciting and welcomed by all.”
An official opening is expected for this spring.
