AS THE holiday season kicks into high gear, Terrace RCMP are reminding the public that they will be on the lookout for impaired drivers, including those impaired by illegal drugs and prescription drugs, which can have the same effect.
Officers will be stepping up enforcement efforts across the country to stop impaired drivers, beginning with an enforcement blitz on December 7, 2013.
“The Terrace RCMP will be out in full force checking the sobriety of drivers with checkstops in various locations,” says media relations and community policing officer Const. Angela Rabut.
Alcohol affects people in different ways and factors such as diet, fatigue, and prescription drugs can change how alcohol affects a person.
It is possible to be considered impaired even if you have a Blood Alcohol Content below 0.08.
Driving after using drugs, even prescription drugs, is just as dangerous as drinking and driving.
Drug Recognition Experts can determine that you’re under the influence of a drug and you can be charged with drug-impaired driving.
Impaired driving is an entirely preventable cause of death and injuries that has immense costs and devastating effects in our communities.
This holiday season if you are planning on drinking, please do not drive.
By finding an alternative way home such as public transit, cabs, or a designated driver, you can help ensure that you, and people sharing the road with you, get to their destination safely.
“A small decision can have great consequences. Let’s make the right choice before we get behind the wheel,” says Rabut.
