Environment Canada expects 45cm of snow and then freezing rain in Hope

Yale First Nation, Hope and Area Transition Society and others called a snow day.

Hope is currently enjoying a respite from snowfall, but that only hides the calm before the storm.

Environment Canada expects another 35 centimetres tonight and another 10cm tomorrow, before turning to freezing rain some time between tomorrow morning to the early afternoon.

“We’ve had arctic outflow conditions this part week that saw a lot of cold air from the Interior come to the coastal communities and that really set us up for prime snowfall events,” said meteorologist Lisa West.

As a result, Yale First Nation has called a snow day for tomorrow, as has Hope and Area Transition Society. HATS is closed throughout the week and will reopen on Tuesday. Fraser-Cascade School District 78 superintendent Karen Nelson said they will make a decision to call a snow day before 6 a.m. tomorrow.
