Erratic driver crashes through fence, into vehicle

A 25-year-old Alberta man is facing multiple charges after driving through a fence and then head on into another vehicle Friday night.

A 25-year-old man from Alberta is facing multiple potential charges after he first drove through a fence, sped off, then hit another vehicle head on.

Kelowna RCMP received a report at 11:08 p.m. on Friday that a silver 2003 BMW convertible drove through a fence in a residential area of the 700 block, Barnaby Road, Kelowna.

As police officers were responding, a second call was received at 11:12 p.m. of a motor vehicle accident at Lakeshore and Hobson Road.

Upon arrival, police determined that the previously noted silver BMW had driven head on into a 1985 Honda Accord driven by a 20-year-old woman.

The collision trapped the woman inside her vehicle and the jaws of life had to be used to extract her. She received extensive injuries to her legs and suffered from a broken facial cheek bone.

The Alberta man was initially checked out at Kelowna General Hospital, but was then brought to the Kelowna RCMP detachment to provide samples of his breath in keeping with an impaired driving investigation.

He is facing charges of dangerous operation of a motor vehicle causing bodily harm, impaired driving and driving over .08.
