Esquimalt homeowners and businesses will see no increase in their property taxes for the third consecutive year, council confirmed Monday night.
The municipality will now develop a 2014 financial plan and tax rate bylaw based on a 0 per cent increase in tax revenue requirements, said Mayor Barb Desjardins.
“We are committed to providing exceptional service to our residents without raising municipal tax rates,” she said. “The 0% increase will be achieved while maintaining our core services, and budgeting $8.1 million for capital costs and infrastructure improvements.”
Utility increases connected to the core area’s secondary sewage treatment project remain unclear.
Financial plan and tax rates bylaws will be considered at a May 5 council meeting and are scheduled for adoption at a May 12 meeting. Esquimalt’s overall 2014 budget of $38.4 million is expected to be approved as well.
