Excessive speeders pulled over

One motorist was doing 141 kilometres an hour while the other was at 138 kilometres an hour in a 90-kilometre zone.

Motorists are being warned to ease off the gas pedal.

Recently, police officers pulled over two motorists for excessive speed on Highway 97, near Crystal Waters Road in Oyama. One was doing 141 kilometres an hour while the other was at 138 kilometres an hour in a 90-kilometre zone.

“The hazard these two vehicles caused was quite great,” said Gord Molendyk, Vernon RCMP spokesperson, adding that they were nearing a construction zone when  stopped.

Both vehicles were impounded for seven days.

“One of the drivers was from the Lower Mainland and his plans for the weekend changed a great deal,” said Molendyk.

Each motorist was handed a $368 ticket for excessive speeding and they will also receive a $1,000 fine in insurance penalty points annually for three years.

Motorists are being advised that there will be paving from 15th Street to Bailey Road over the summer.

“Fines are double in a construction zone,” said Molendyk.

The paving on Highway 97 is being done from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m.
