Travelers on Highway 3 between Castlegar and Grand Forks may experience delays through the fall as rehabilitation work takes place on the Paulson Bridge.
Drivers can expect single-lane alternating traffic to be in place 24 hours a day and should be prepared for delays of up to 10 minutes.
The Ministry of Transportation says the $6 million project is being done to improve safety on the bridge and its approaches.
The work will include deck resurfacing, replacement of deck joints and bridge deck overhangs, installation of new concrete roadside barriers, improvements to roadway drainage and resurfacing the bridge approaches.
“Keeping people and goods moving safely and efficiently in all corners of our province is our top priority,” said Claire Trevena, Minister of Transportation and Infrastructure. “Paulson Bridge is more than 55 years old. Significantly rehabilitating the bridge and providing other key safety upgrades will ensure it remains reliable for many years to come.”
The Paulson Bridge crosses over McRae Creek and the Kettle Valley Rail Trail on the Crowsnest Highway, approximately 50 km west of Castlegar.
Drivers are reminded to use caution when travelling through the work area, obey traffic control at all times and to check DriveBC.ca for the most up-to-date information.
