Extensive hunt for missing Victoria woman ends with discovery of body

Search involved Victoria and Saanich police, search-and-rescue volunteers, marine rescue unit

A large-scale search for a Victoria woman, who was reported missing Monday night, came to the end with the discovery of her body Wednesday afternoon (Nov. 30).

Search-and-rescue volunteers found the remains of Catherine Piazza, 56, in Moss Rock Park, in Fairfield, the same community where she was last seen.

Police do not suspect foul play, and the B.C. Coroners Service is investigating cause of death.

Victoria and Saanich officers were initially involved in the search. By Wednesday, search and rescue volunteers were canvassing Beacon Hill Park and Dallas Road, and a marine rescue unit planned to search the coastline.

Family told police they were concerned for Piazza’s well-being, and how she was coping with what they said was “a difficult time in her life,” said Mike Tucker, spokesperson for Victoria Police Department.
