Ridge Meadows RCMP are alerting residents about a phoney bank card reader that was in place at a Maple Ridge bank.
The card reader was found by a customer around 2:30 p.m. on Saturday at the Westminster Savings Credit Union branch, off Lougheed Highway near 224th Street.
Police seized the device, but don’t know how long it was in place.
“We want anyone who used the machine in the past month to keep track of their banking records,” said Sgt. Dale Somerville.
Counterattack
Ridge Meadows RCMP are beginning their Christmas Counterattack campaign and will be out in force on weekends, making sure drunk drivers are kept off the road. Four extra officers are being added to shifts on Friday and Saturday. Last weekend, three drivers were caught for impaired driving, and three more lost their driving privileges with three-day suspensions.
Operation Red Nose volunteers give rides home to people who may feel unfit to drive but want to get their vehicles home.
Although the service is free, donations are accepted and 100 per cent of the money will go to PacificSport Fraser Valley to help local high performance, podium sport athletes in the form of travel and performance grants and various other support services.
This year the service will be in operation between 9 p.m. until 3 a.m. on Dec. 2-3, 9-10, 16-17, and 31.
Last year, volunteers in Maple Ridge and Pitt Meadows gave 353 rides to party-goers, nearly double that of 2008, when the Maple Ridge-Pitt Meadows campaign began.
This year, Operation Red Nose would like to increase the rides to 500.
