Fall pickup includes bundled prunings

Bundled pruning is now included in the City of Armstrong’s fall yard and garden waste clean-up.

The current city compostable waste pickup program includes pickup of yard and garden waste twice a year in the spring and fall.

Spring pickup includes clear bagged compostable yard and garden waste along with bundled pruning material. The fall program includes pickup of clear bagged compostable yard and garden waste only.

City council unanimously passed a recommendation from the public works department to include bundled pruning in the fall pickup.

“Over the years, staff has noticed that residents place pruning material into bags to meet the fall pickup criteria, or bundles are placed out hoping they’ll get picked up,” said public works manager Tim Perepolkin in a report to council.

“With bundled pickup not offered in the fall, the materials usually remains until spring pickup the following year.”

The fall pickup will be Monday, Nov. 2 and there will be a service level charge to the city’s coffers to include the bundled material. The charge is expected to have little to no impact on the annual budget for the service.
