Family appeals for help to find missing Surrey man

Stephen Begg disappeared in February.

The family of missing Surrey resident Stephen Begg is pleading for information on his whereabouts in the almost seven-month-old case.

Calling it out of character for Begg to not retain contact, friends and family members are worried about his mental health and well-being.

Begg was reported missing to Surrey RCMP on Feb. 16, and was last seen by his roommate on Feb. 6 at his home in the 16800 block of Fraser Highway. Police conducted an extensive search for Begg – including checking his medical, financial, and computer records – to no avail.

At a press conference Friday, Stephen’s dad Malcolm Begg spoke about his son’s struggle with alcoholism and depression. He revealed Stephen was in hospital last year with alcohol-related liver and kidney problems – and was also down about his inability to find work.

“We’ve gone through a hundred scenarios in our mind,” said Malcolm, who lives in Florida.

Stephen Begg is described as a Caucasian male, 36 years old, 5’8” tall, 130 pounds, with blond hair and blue eyes. Anyone with information about the case is asked to contact the Surrey RCMP Missing Persons Unit at 604-599-0502.
