CHRISTMAS lights shone along Lakelse Ave. last night as the Terrace Downtown Improvement Association officially launched the holiday season.

City councillor James Cordeiro, representing the city, flicked the switch to power up a large decorated tree on the corner of Emerson and Lakelse.

Helping things along was the Salvation Army’s mobile kitchen where another city councillor, Brian Downie, distributed hot dogs and hot chocolate.

The festivities continue tonight at George Little Park beginning at 6 p.m.

Merchant Bruno Belanger, one of the organizers, said many of the features of past years will be returning.

There’s cookie decorating in the lower level of the Terrace Public Library and there’ll be a fire pit in the park, he said.

And heavy horse owner Dean Sturko will be offering rides in a hay wagon, Belanger added.

“We’ve also have glow sticks for the children and hundreds of oranges,” he said.
