The countdown to shredding season is on, as plans for opening Fernie Alpine Resort (FAR) on Dec. 5 remain steadily on track following last week’s snowfall.
Web cams of the runs, available on FAR’s website, show an increasingly snowy Cedar Bowl, waiting to be carved into just weeks from now.
As of Nov. 18, the resort boasts a 162 centimetre base, with 76 of those centimetres having touched down within the last week.
With parent company Resorts of the Canadian Rockies (RCR) having released its winter operations plan in late October, the new guidelines allow for unrestricted access to the mountain, with no pre-booking protocols in place as of yet.
Other changes resort-goers will face this year include splitting chair lift lines into two groups – one being for cohort groups and family bubbles who are willing to ride the lift together, and another for individuals willing to ride with others.
As far as winter sports school goes, differences include revised maximum group sizes, mandatory face coverings, and no inclusion of food and beverage options in lessons.
Though food and beverage outlets are preparing to remain open, interior eating spaces will be modified, capacities reduced, and cleaning protocols heightened.
In keeping up with the new regulations, season passes will not be processed at ticket counters this year, so anyone with a season pass is reminded to complete their waivers and submit their pass photos online.
