Chili and charity will go hand in hand at Farm Fest, an East Kelowna fundraiser with line dancing lessons and a visit from Elsa.
The princess from Frozen will sign autographs in the kids’ activity area, otherwise known as Cow Poke Academy, while parents chow down on some of the finest chilli in town—and enjoy a glass of beer, wine or cider.
Organized by Arion Therapeutic Farm, the event is geared to happen annually as a counterpart to the farm’s winter carnival.
“We can’t say who the judge is yet, but we have a special guest coming,” said Heather Henderson, Arion Therapeutic Farm founder.
Cow Poke Academy will include a hay maze to find a lost pig, hay wagon, pony rides and a petting zoo, to name just a few of the activities.
“We’ve got some really great volunteers,” said Henderson, a team has come together to conjure up ideas like the pool noodle obstacle course and goat races.
The cook off itself will happen at 6 p.m. and there is a $1000 prize up for grabs thanks to Wards Hard Apple Cider.
Music will be provided by Shamma Sabir and the World Famous Fiddlers, John McMahon and Ben Beveridge.
Farm Fest runs Friday, Aug. 22 from 3-9 p.m. at Arion Therapeutic Farm, 2457 Saucier Road. Food, drink and activity tickets available on site.
There is still room for a few more non-profits to join the competition.
