In partnership with Amara Farm and the Farmer’s Kitchen Food Truck, LUSH Valley Food Action Society is hosting their first annual Farm to Table dinner at Amara Farm in Courtenay on Sept 12.

Guests are invited to attend an afternoon or evening of community, connection and delicious, local food to support the organization in securing their ‘forever home’ property: an office, program centre and proposed community food hub in central Courtenay.

“The work that LUSH Valley does is so incredibly important to our community,” says Arzeena Hamir, farmer and owner of Amara Farm. “From reducing food waste to teaching food skills to supporting local farmers, I appreciate all of LUSH Valley’s programs, so providing a location for their fundraiser is just a small way to support the continuation of their work in the Comox Valley.”

Amara Farm was started in 2012 by Arzeena and Neil Hamir who shared a dream to grow healthy food for their community. The farm received its certified organic status in 2015 and has since earned awards such as the Land of Plenty Award (2018) and the Comox Valley Record’s Best Market Vendor (2019).

LUSH Valley is excited to deepen their partnership with Amara Farm, as the organization currently works with Amara to run Farm Gleaning Harvest events and source fresh produce for LUSH Valley Good Food Boxes.

“We are so excited to work with Amara Farm and the Farmer’s Kitchen to launch our first annual Farm to Table fundraiser,” says Maurita Prato, executive director of LUSH Valley. “This locally-inspired and 100 per cent plant-based menu is a fun and fresh way to celebrate the abundance of local food and flavours in our Valley, while raising funds to purchase a property for LUSH Valley programming.

“The Farm to Table Meal on Sept. 12 promises to be a beautiful and delicious event for a good cause, thanks to the generosity of our partners.”

The Farmer’s Kitchen Food Truck has been supporting LUSH Valley’s Meals for Deal fundraisers every Wednesday since mid-July and will continue to do so through to Sept. 22. The Farmer’s Kitchen draws inspiration from a variety of global street vendors and puts a vibrant, fresh twist on dishes by collaborating with Comox Valley farmers and chefs to draw local, in-season ingredients.

The Farmer’s Kitchen is a long-time supporter of LUSH Valley and also partners with Amara Farm to source fresh, in-season produce for food truck operations year-round.

Join LUSH Valley and the Farmer’s Kitchen at Amara Farm at 12 p.m. or 5 p.m. and help actualize LUSH Valley’s vision to secure a permanent office, program centre and warehouse space in central Courtenay.
