DAM SAFETY

The 2012/13 annual B.C. Dam Safety Report is based on 147 audits conducted on the 1,636 regulated dams.

It includes data on dam program management, construction, inspections, incidents, failures, compliance and corrective actions.

Program management highlights included positive findings of dam owner training, improved monitoring and increased audits. The five minor dam failures, three dam alerts and six minor incidents noted had all been satisfactorily resolved.

The reports are online at www.env.gov.bc.ca/wsd/public_safety/dam_safety/index.html.

BUY BC FOODS

Consumers will be able to identify B.C. foods for family meals, school snacks and even pet food, as a result of a branding program developed by the B.C. Food Processors Association.

Through $65,000 in Buy Local Program funding, shoppers will be able to identify B.C. products, including baked goods, beverages (including beer and wine), dairy, meat, seafood, fruit and vegetable products, ethnic specialties, natural health products and pet food.

The title recognizes British Columbia lawyers for distinctive merit and contribution to the legal profession, and is bestowed by the attorney general based on recommendations from an advisory committee.

The ministry will announce appointments chosen to receive the designation at the end of the year.
