Speed and one out-of-town impaired driver dominated weekend RCMP traffic statistics.
Members of the North Okanagan Traffic Services and Integrated Road Safety Unit issued 63 speeding tickets throughout the North Okanagan on the Labour Day weekend, and another two drivers were ticketed for excessive speeding (40 km/h or more over the posted speed limited) and had their vehicles impounded.
Police stopped a 58-year old Surrey man early Tuesday on an impaired charge and discovered the man has some problems with alcohol.
“This man had just been released on bail Sept. 2 in Surrey with conditions that included abstaining from alcohol,” said RCMP spokesperson Gord Molendyk.
“He was also out on bail for another Surrey charge of impaired driving, dating back to January 2012.”
Other long weekend statistics included officers issuing five 90-day Immediate Roadside Prohibitions (IRps).
There were 10 seatbelt violations ticketed and one driver was ticketed for using an electronic device while driving.
Police wrote 33 other traffic charges and issued 27 written warnings.
