The Cariboo Chilcotin Traffic Services, along with Prince George Regional Provincial Traffic Services are on scene of a two vehicle fatal crash that occurred on Highway 97 South at Brookwood Ranch, north of Quesnel BC.
On Wednesday Aug. 28 at 3:41 p.m., a north bound car crossed the centre line and collided head on with a south bound tractor trailer (chip truck).
As a result of the crash both the car and the chip truck caught on fire. The fire spread to the tree line along the highway at the crash site. Forestry has been called and are on scene battling the fire.
At this time, the investigators are on scene and a Collision Analyst, who is headed to the scene, are working to determine what may have caused this collision.
Police, at this time, are unable to confirm how many people were in the car at the time of the crash. The driver and lone occupant of the chip truck appears to be uninjured.
The highway is closed in both directions and Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure are aware and are on scene. It is not known at this time if there is a detour available.
Police would like to speak to anyone who may have witnessed this crash, as well as to anyone who may have observed either of the vehicles prior to the collision. If anyone has any information they are asked to call the RCMP or Crime Stoppers.
