One person is dead following a two-vehicle collision that occurred near Parson, about 40 kilometres south of Golden.

The incident happened just before 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 13, when a southbound semi transport truck collided head-on with a northbound Jeep Cherokee.

The driver of the Cherokee was found deceased at the scene.

The section of Highway 95 where the crash occurred is straight, with one lane in each direction. Road conditions did not play a factor in the incident, however, RCMP Cpl. Mike Halskov said the highway was wet.

According to Halskov, a witness to the crash reported the northbound Cherokee drifted into the southbound lane, narrowly avoiding a collision with the vehicle they were driving.

The Cherokee reportedly went on once again to drift into the southbound lane, where it collided with the semi truck. The witness said the truck driver couldn’t avoid the head-on collision.

The exact cause of the crash is not yet known, but it is being treated as a non-criminal fatal crash.

Halskov said the investigation will include a toxicology report, adding the the deceased was known to police.

It will be a few months before the investigation is complete.
