Traffic along Glover Road and the Langley Bypass is at a standstill, after a fatal train incident on the tracks in Langley City.
Langley RCMP have been on scene for a few hours, along with CP Police and other emergency responders, after a pedestrian was struck by a train in the area of 204th Street and Duncan Way, said local RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Zynal Sharoom.
He described it as a fatality, meaning the train has been stopped and numerous roads through the area will remain blocked for what he expects to be several hours to come. The blocked intersections included the Langley Bypass and 216th Street and Crush Crescent near Glover Road.
“The train can’t be moved,” Sharoom noted.
The incident occurred just before 4:30 p.m. today (Wednesday, May 22).
Crews are continuing their investigate and waiing for the BC Coroner Service to arrive on scene.
He also noted that victim services has been deployed to help any potential witness of the “traumatic” incident.
In the meantime, police are asking anyone with dashcam footage or who witnessed the incident and have not yet talked to authorities, to contact the Langley RCMP at 604-532-3200.
