At the Sept. 12 Fernie City Council Meeting, Director of Leisure Services, Lloyd Smith, presented two staff reports in regards to roofing repairs on City buildings.
Both Max Turyk Community Centre and the Aquatic Centre are in need of roof repairs. The projects have been awarded to different contractors and both are projected to be under budget.
The Max Turyk repair had a budget of $525,000, and Triumph Roofing won the bid at a price of $498,585, exclusive of GST. The project was addressed in the 2016 budget and the city had the funds available. The bid price equates to $18.13 per square foot.
The Aquatic Centre roof project was awarded to Royal Roofing for a price of $120,000. This came in $10,000 under the budget the City allocated for this project. The bid price equates to $3.50 per square foot of repairs.
To help them find the appropriate bids, the City used the services of Swan Roof Consulting Inc., a Calgary-based operation. According to a report submitted to the City by Swan Roofing Inc. the City saved $23,000 by using their services in searching for a roofer for the Max Turyk project.
Council approved awarding both of the contracts, without opposition.
