The Fernie Fox Hotel has donated $5,000 to the ‘Beneath the Surface’ campaign run by the East Kootenay Foundation for Health (EKFH).

The campaign is for an ultrasound service to be established at the Elk Valley Hospital in Fernie, making it easier for Elk Valley residents to receive appropriate medical care without having to travel to Cranbrook.

“Having an ultrasound machine at the Elk Valley Hospital will be a huge asset for all of the residents, up and down the Valley,” said Marina and Jeremiah Pauw, who are the owners of the Fernie Fox Hotel.

“Minimizing travel times and inclement weather travel risks for routine procedures will greatly increase the livability of our community,” they said.

Teck Resources will be matching all donations up to $50,000 before Sep. 30, so the donation from the Fernie Fox Hotel will go a long way to achieving the goal of $300,000 for the ultrasound service.
