Fernie Pride launches inclusivity survey

The survey will help identify gaps in supports for the LGBTQ2+ community in the Elk Valley

  • Jun. 15, 2021 12:00 a.m.

The Fernie Pride Society wants to know about the experiences of the LGBTQ2+ community living in the Elk Valley.

The society has launched a confidential online survey that is open to everyone including the LGBTQ2+ community, their allies, families members, coworkers, educators and healthcare professionals that gathers information on what it’s like to live and work in the Elk Valley as someone that’s queer, questioning or adjacent to the community.

The results, which will be gathered over the next two weeks (with a deadline at the end of June) will be used to identify barriers to diversity and inclusion in the Elk Valley, and help determine potential remedies for employers and other organizations.

The survey is being done thanks to funding from a federal grant which was announced earlier this year, with the Fernie Pride Society receiving a little over $57,000 to take a magnifying glass to the challenges and barriers in place to the LGBTQ2+ community in the region.

The survey will be conducted by Fernie-based research and consulting firm Capasati Consulting, and all responses will be anonymous and confidential, with only aggregated responses will be provided to the Fernie Pride Society.

The results will be condensed into a report with hopes it will be available by the time the September Elk Valley Pride Festival rolls around later this year.

You can find the survey at elkvalleypride.ca, and it takes between 5-10 minutes to fill it out.
