On July 9 at about 11:48 a.m., Fernie Search and Rescue (SAR) was tasked with rescuing a female mountain biker who suffered facial and suspected spinal injuries after falling from a wooden structure and landing on her head and face.
Using their Utility Terrain Vehicle (UTV), members drove close to the incident site resulting in just a five minute hike on single track trail to the victim’s location. Upon arrival the members tended to her wounds and took special precautions loading her onto a wheeled stretcher due to concern for spinal injuries, said Fernie SAR on its Facebook page.
The injured woman was carefully taken down the trail to the waiting UTV and quickly transported out of the bush to waiting BC Ambulance service personnel.
