Fiery car crash in Maple Ridge

Driver lost control of car on Lougheed Highway and landed in a ditch

A person lost control of their vehicle traveling eastbound along Lougheed Hwy. at Spillsbury Rd. Monday afternoon. The vehicle crossed the highway, taking down a light standard before coming to rest in a ditch. Soon after it caught fire. Nobody was injured in the accident.

A driver walked away with minor injuries following a fiery crash Monday on Lougheed Highway in Maple Ridge.

The driver was travelling east towards Mission when he lost control of his car and crashed into a lamppost on the other side of Lougheed Highway, landing in a ditch.

The car caught fire but the occupants got out of the vehicle before the fire department, police and paramedics arrived.

Police said the 33-year-old driver was lucky and did not sustain serious injuries. A 24-year-old woman who was a passenger was taken to hospital.

Police at the scene said speed is being investigated as a factor in the crash.

The driver was ticketed for driving without due car and attention.
