A doorman ended up in the hospital and one man is facing assault charges after a fight broke out at Vernon’s strip club Wednesday night.

The On the Roxx Show Lounge employee was trying to break up a fight between several patrons shortly before midnight when he was allegedly assaulted.

“The fight started just in front of the bar, the doorman/security was attempting to break the fight up between two patrons when one picked up a stool struck the doorman on the head,” said Gord Molendyk, RCMP spokesperson.

Two officers from the Vernon Detachment were already at the establishment investigating an unrelated matter. They were immediately able to bring the disturbance under control. Two people were taken into custody for the disturbance.

“The bar employee who went in to break up the fight received injuries to his head that required stitches at the hospital.”

After speaking to several other patrons and bar staff one of the men, a 24-year-old from the Westside Road area was held for intoxication and released with no charges.

The 34-year-old suspect who allegedly swung the stool was released Thursday morning on a promise to appear for May 15 to face assault charges.
