The power outage across Penticton and Naramata was caused by a power pole fire.
The outage knocked out power for around 6,000 city customers from Penticton’s northeast all the way to Naramata, and another 1,200 FortistBC customers up to Naramata.
Serendipity Winery’s Katie O’Kell took to Facebook that she saw and heard a transformer blow at 8 p.m. on Naramata Road where the Naramata Fire Department showed up shortly after and closed the road temporarily.

Fortis had to shut down the transmission line in order to do the repairs on the pole, which cut off power to the Westminster sub-station.
The power was out in Penticton for around 45 minutes according to the city.
