A major conference is expected to fuel the local economy,
The Fire Chiefs Association of B.C. will hold its annual conference and expo in Vernon in 2017.
“It’s exciting for the community,” said Keith Green, Vernon fire chief.
About 800 delegates, spouses and trade show vendors will attend the event and it could pump $5 million into the economy through hotels, restaurants and shopping.
About 100 fire service vendors will take part in the trade show at Kal Tire Place.
The FCABC has strict guidelines when determining a host community for the conference.
“They sent a team up to check out the facilities,” said Green.
“They had a couple of communities in mind and we have the facilities they were looking for.”
Some of the educational workshops will occur at the fire training centre on Pottery Road and Vernon firefighters will provide local knowledge and assistance.
Green believes the conference can provide significant benefits for his members.
“There are great networking opportunities. You can learn about new techniques and technology,” he said.
