Two people escaped uninjured from a fire that struck a local business in downtown Campbell River Tuesday.
At 2:30 p.m. that day, the Campbell River fire department responded to a report of a structure fire at 1376-16th Ave.
“Crews arrived to find smoke coming from the rear of the single storey commercial building. Firefighters from the No. 1 fire hall downtown were quick to respond and knock the fire down within minutes, which prevented it from spreading throughout the building,” says deputy fire chief Thomas Doherty.
Fire damage was contained to a small area in the rear corner of the building along with some smoke damage inside the restaurant. The cause of the fire was accidental, and no injuries were reported.
