A fire that broke out at the Ramada hotel on Gorge Road East forced 75 guests onto B.C. Transit buses to keep warm early Friday morning.
Victoria and Saanich fire departments responded with three engines and 24 firefighters to the call just after midnight Dec. 2. Firefighters broke through a wall to get at the fire, which started in the laundry room by the hotel’s restaurant.
Everyone was safely evacuated and eventually relocated to an unaffected wing of the hotel.
The blaze caused extensive fire, smoke and water damage, mainly limited to the restaurant. Damages are estimated at $500,000. The cause is under investigation.
