Fire damages log loader at Lumby mill

Firefighters were called to Tolko’s White Valley division on Highway 6 Thursday

A large piece of equipment has been damaged by fire at a Lumby area mill.

Firefighters were called to Tolko’s White Valley division on Highway 6 after receiving a report of a log loader on fire at 6 a.m. Thursday.

“It was fully engulfed when we got there,” said Tony Clayton, Lumby fire chief.

“There was extensive damage to the loader but it won’t impact operations because it was out in the yard.”

There was some concern the fire may spread because the loader was next to a pile of logs but the nine firefighters on scene were able to keep the blaze contained.

The cause of the fire has been determined to be mechanical in nature.
