Fire forced an Oyama couple out of their home Wednesday.
Lake Country firefighters were called to a residence on Rawsthorne Road at 10:43 p.m.
“The fire had extended from the garage into the attic,” said Steve Windsor, Lake Country fire chief.
Two people were sleeping in the home at the time and didn’t become aware of the blaze until a motorist on Highway 97 spotted the flames, entered the neighbourhood and banged on their door.
“It was their lucky day the guy turned around and went there,” said Windsor.
The roof was burned off the double garage and there is extensive smoke damage inside the house.
The intense heat also melted the siding off two adjacent residences.
A cause for the blaze has not been determined by the Lake Country Fire Department although it is not believed to be suspicious.
