A fire that occurred in Penticton Sunday is under investigation after crews deemed it suspicious.
According to RCMP a molotov cocktail made with a Snapple bottle started the blaze, though at this point it is unclear who committed the act or what their motive was.
“We’re looking into what the connection is. Fortunately the fire department got called and it didn’t spread or anything. Minor damage to some shingles and nobody injured,” said Rick Dellebuur, RCMP media spokesperson.
Penticton Fire respond to a structure fire on Calgary Avenue Nov. 15 around 10:30 p.m. When crews arrived they found the fire on the roof of a garage/shed and the homeowner had been dousing the flames with an extinguisher. Firefighters cleaned up the blaze and left it in the hands of the RCMP as the fire was thought to be suspicious.
“The evidence that was there and what the guys saw didn’t line up so they called in the RCMP,” said Fire Chief Dave Spalding.
An investigation is currently underway.
