Fire department responds to house fire, damaged contained to the kitchen

Deputy fire chief Rob Warnock said the extent of the damage is unknown at this time

The Williams Lake Fire Dept. responded to a house fire on Smith Street Thursday evening just before 10 p.m.

“There was a fire in the kitchen,” Deputy Chief Rob Warnock said. “The homeowner had blown off a fire extinguisher before we got there.”

Warnock said the fire department remained on scene for about two hours and as of Friday morning was waiting for the insurance adjuster to view the home and determine the amount of damage.

It was the second structure fire the department attended this week, having responded to a fire on Midnight Drive and Boundary Street on Sunday afternoon at a duplex.

One side was significantly damaged and the family living in the other half of the duplex was also displaced due to damage to the building.
