No one was injured, but nearby homes were evacuated during a fire that completely destroyed a garage and damaged a neighbouring outbuilding in the 500 block of Thulin Street yesterday.
At 9:54 p.m. on Sept. 14, Campbell River Fire Department responded to a garage fire at 520 Thulin Street.
“Crews arrived to find the 20-by-30 foot garage fully involved at the rear of the property. As a precautionary measure, fire crews evacuated nearby homes until the fire was brought under control,” says deputy fire chief Thomas Doherty. “A quick response from fire crews prevented the fire from spreading to the residence on the property and the residences on either side of the property.”
The home on the property did suffer heat damage to the siding, and the fire spread to a neighbour’s outbuilding, located in close proximity to the burning garage, and the neighbour’s building suffered significant damage.
“Early detection of this fire and notification to the fire department and the quick response of crews were critical factors in limiting the spread of this fire,” Doherty adds.
An estimate of the loss has yet to be determined, and fire investigators will be on scene this week to determine cause and origin of the fire.
