A fire in Grand Forks' Valmar subdivision destroyed a home Tuesday.

The cause of a fire that destroyed a home in Grand Forks’ Valmar subdivision was possibly electrical, said Grand Forks Fire/Rescue Chief Dale Heriot.

The fire department was called at about 12:20 p.m. on Tuesday, July 5.

“When we arrived we observed heavy smoke coming out the front door,” Heriot explained.

The fire crews arrived shortly after with 18 personnel on two engines and the new ladder truck.

During the fire, firefighters had five hand lines and the aerial monitor flowing water during suppression activities.

“The ability of the platform ladder truck to get above the fire and drill into the fire was critical reducing the duration of the event, as well as preventing the structure from burning to the ground,” Heriot said.

Upon investigation, the cause of the fire was undetermined but possibly electrical in nature, Heriot added.

The fire was called out at about 4:45 p.m.
