A house has been completely destroyed in a Friday afternoon fire north of Lumby.
The single-family dwelling is deemed a “complete loss,” according to officers on scene and the fire is still smouldering at the base and plumes of black smoke are still visible.
The fire didn’t spread to a nearby stable and the horses inside appear unharmed.
Reports of a structure of fire burning outside the Lumby and Enderby Fire Department fire protection areaa on Trinity Valley Road was reported at 11:40 a.m., Sept. 4.
Area residents began to share photos of smoky skies in the Lumby area around 1 p.m.
BC Wildfire Services reported to the fire and remained on scene Friday afternoon to ensure the fire didn’t spread to the neighbouring forest area.
Vernon North Okanagan RCMP closed the road due to the fire’s proximity to it.
AIMRoads reported Trinity Valley Road is open to local traffic as of 4:30 p.m.

An officer on scene said the road closure was a precautionary move due to the potential of there being unexploded fuel sources in the area of the blaze.
The cause of the fire is unknown at this time.
