A truck was engulfed by flames at a main Coldstream intersection Sunday night.
Crews from the adjacent fire hall responded to the blaze at Kalamalka and Aberdeen roads at about 10 p.m.
“The driver was heading into town when he noticed weird sounds and turned around to go home,” said Dave Sturgeon, hire chief.
“The truck started to smoke, he got out and it started to flame under the hood.”
Flames roared through the truck and a loud explosion occurred, either from the battery or the gas shocks. Some neighbours described the blast as sounding like a gunshot.
The occupants of the truck were not injured and the cause of the fire is under investigation by ICBC.
“It seems to be mechanical,” said Sturgeon.
Earlier Sunday, Coldstream firefighters were called to a head-on collision in the 15000 block of Kalamalka Road, by Dutch’s Campground, at 1:23 p.m.
“One woman was transported to hospital with undetermined injuries and the other (male) driver was OK,” said Sturgeon.
The accident remains under investigation by the RCMP.
