As summer 2016 drew to a close, Black Press launched a new venue to share videos with our readers.
The new website at BlackPress.tv improves on a service the Oak Bay News already provided, value added video for our online readers. Views through our own web site at OakBayNews.com reached as high as 900 on some videos and slideshows.
The trend seems to be growing, as the top top three videos overall for the Oak Bay News were also our top three viewed videos in August.
Top of the heap was a clip from the party where MLA Andrew Weaver was acclaimed to run again during the upcoming provincial election.
Second was our Keys to success launch video featuring Joseph Blake tickling the ivories and explaining the campaign to raise funds for a quality piano for the new state-of-the-art Dave Dunnet Community Theatre at Oak Bay High.
Royal Yacht Club’s flag raising video, or earning Clean Marine status, and the August Oak Bay Street Market slideshow rounded out a tie for third most viewed at BlackPress.tv under the Oak Bay News title.
In September, the “arrest” for a jail or bail fundraiser, of Oak Bay Fire Chief Dave Cockle edged out the “arrest” Oak Bay Police Deputy Chief Kent Thom for top spot.
Halloween hit top spots in both September and October as our Facebook friends shared around slideshows of celebrations on The Avenue as well as preparations on Pumpkin Art on the Avenue. The Arts Alive voting deadline video featuring arts laureate Barbara Adams pulled up third that month.
The official launch of Threshold House scored top hits in November, while a slideshow of the colourful creation by Ottavio Italian Bakery and Deli pastry chef Melanie Lonsdale, finished second. Remembrance Day featuring Monterey Middle School students Annika Little and Oliver Longe reading In Flanders Fields also saw great sharing on social media.
