On Saturday June 18, at 10:40 a.m. the RCMP responded to a complaint of a fire at the high school.
The fire was discovered by an employee at the school who was able to smell smoke throughout the building, the RCMP reported in a press release.
While trying to determine the source of the smoke, the employee discovered that someone had built a fire outside, against one of the back walls of the building.
The fire did not spread throughout the building, however it did cause damage to the small portion of wall where the fire was initially started.
The Gitanmaax Fire Department attended the scene and extinguished the fire.
It is believed the fire was intentionally set sometime during the morning hours of June 18, and the New Hazelton RCMP are requesting anyone with any information about this incident to contact either the detachment or Crimestoppers.
The RCMP are also requesting the help of the public on another matter that happened last month.
