Firefighters battle blaze on Mountain Drive in Abbotsford

A car burst into flames inside a garage, and was quickly extinguished by crews.

Multiple fire engines and crews were on the scene of a fire at a home at 2275 Mountain Drive in east Abbotsford on Wednesday afternoon.

Fire crews were called to the scene at about 3:45 p.m. after a car inside a garage burst into flames. Crews quickly extinguished the blaze, but the car and garage were gutted, and some siding on the home was melted. The fire did not spread to the rest of the home, and nobody was injured.

A smoke plume could be seen from the bottom of Sumas Mountain. The home is located on the south-facing hillside.

Abbotsford Police blocked off a portion of Mountain Drive in both directions, and people were advised to avoid the area.

Abbotsford Fire Rescue Service called out several halls and multiple pieces of equipment.
