Just a reminder that this Saturday, Sooke Firefighters will be hosting the Firefighter Fitness Challenge. Firefighters from departments all over Southern Vancouver Island will be here to compete in what some call the toughest two minutes in sports. In full firefighting gear, firefighters will need to complete 5 events including a quick climb to the top of the hose tower while carrying 100 feet of hose, then hoisting up a 50 foot roll of hose to the tower deck, back down the stairs to the weight machine where they use a sledge hammer to drive an 80lb weight over a five foot length. Next a quick run through the obstacle course at the end of which they pick up and drag 100 feet of charged fire hose, open the nozzle and knock over a target. Finally they must drag a 165 lb rescue mannequin a length of 80 feet. (and yes record times are right around 2 minutes) The event is open to the public and begins at 9:30 am through to about 3:00 pm. All proceeds will be donated to Muscular Dystrophy Canada.
