One man was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries after his truck hit two parked cars and rolled over in Nanaimo.
The crash happened Thursday, July 22, shortly before 7:30 p.m. when the Chevrolet pickup truck collided with the parked vehicles and rolled over into a ditch in the 200 block of Harwell Road.
Troy Libbus, Nanaimo Fire Rescue assistant chief of training and education, said two fire engines and two rescue trucks responded to the crash scene.
“Rescue 2 wasn’t used, but the manpower was … B.C. Ambulance was on scene when we got there, attending to the patient, but the patient was trapped inside and we had to extricate him,” Libbus said.
Firefighters used the Jaws of Life to cut the truck’s roof pillars and fold the roof back to free the driver who was the sole occupant of the vehicle.
“It looks like the individual was travelling at a high rate of speed, lost control and the vehicle was overturned…” said Sgt. Rob Graves, of the Nanaimo RCMP, adding that the motorist was issued a violation ticket for driving without due care and attention.
